Welcome!! Here you will gain a glimpse into my work as an archaeologist and geospatial analyst at Statistical Research, Inc. My work as an archaeologist was composed of site surveying, site monitoring and excavation. As a geospatial analayst, I mapped and rendered digital productions of archaeological sites using the latest mapping equipement and computer software.
At Playa Vista, I have conducted extensive archaeological monitoring. During monitoring, one must observe the heavy machinery breaking ground to make sure the equipment does not disturb any archaeological sites or archaeological artifacts during excavation. Monitoring is the first line of defense for Native American artifacts buried beneath the surface.
I have also been on a number of archaeological surveys. During survey, a group of archaologists walk specified transects (ex. 25 meters apart in a northern direction) to attempt to locate archaeological and historic sites, artifacts, and other geographical features. Most of my surveying with SRI occurred at the Barry Goldwater Auxilary Air Force Base in the Arizona desert
Finally there is sorting, where one must seperate all the collected artifacts from the unwanted dirt and rock, which we call dreck. We separate all into artifacts into categories (i.e. shell, bone, flaked stone, fire affected rock and groundstone.
